Atari Atarians Flyer, Autographed

Mint Atari Atarians Flyer, 2 page spread.  This is the very first Atari pinball design.  I learned how to layout, build and fix pinball machines on this Bob Jonesee design.

It was a great experience, but Bob was depressed and I now believe he was clairvoyant.  Every day he would come into the pinball prototype lab shaking his head and saying, "Atari is never going to get this right."

In the end, Bob was right.  Although Atari tried to get it right, the writing was on the wall when management introduced rotary solenoids, the score display in the lower arch, and laying the PCB flat underneath the playfield so that when parts loosened up they would fall on the PCB and burn up the board.   A few times the whole game caught on fire!  We got complaints from arcade owners saying they had to call the fire department to put the game out!

Atari improved its pinball machines by taking a more conventional engineering approach, but the changes came too late to be truly successful in the market.

I knew I wouldn't be at Atari forever, and learned a lot  about making pinball machines while I was there.

The Airborne Avenger Flyer can be autographed any way you like it.

From my personal collection.
